Haylee's surgery

(May 7th, 2012)

Today we had a meet-up appointment with Dr. Marshall Smith for Haylee's throat.  He is the specialist that our Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor, Dr. Anderson, recommended us to.  She was fantastic and so good!  We got her a yummy treat!!

We learned that she would definitely need the first surgery.  She would need another surgery (or stretching of the throat) after 6 weeks of healing from the first.  If that did not work or if, down the road, it didn't grow with her they would have to do the more extensive surgery..which we were praying wouldn't need to happen.  The night before her surgery Cory gave her a wonderful blessing and it eased my mind quite a bit!

(May 29th, 2012)

Today we had to wake her up VERY, VERY early to make it down to Primary Children's by 7am.  She was so sleepy in the car and tried her hardest to go back to sleep!

Then (seriously) so suddenly she went from smiling (above) to total freak-out!  She was crying and just not happy at all!  She climbed up in Daddy's lap and wouldn't do, say, or look at anyone or anything!

We were given the option of giving her meds to calm her nerves or trying to see how she would do and have her meet with a care specialist.  We definitely, DEFINITELY opted for the latter.  She wouldn't talk to the young women who came over. She wanted nothing to do with the doll they gave her.  She was SO not having it!  Daddy started coloring it and she started to get excited!  She picked out the colors and even started coloring it.  Until the lady came back..then she wouldn't talk to her!

She did name her.."Susie!"  When she started to lighten up we tried to talk about how the cool anesthesiologist (who seriously..SERIOUSLY was AWESOME and SO PERFECT for a Pediatric Anesthesiologist!)  was going to take her back and give her the meds.  She was NOT having it and started to have a mini freak-out sesh!  So..we ultimately decided that we would let her have those meds to calm her down.  (can you see her red cheeks)

Aaaaannddd..it's starting to kick in!  Notice the glassy eyes and super red cheeks.  (and Daddy's seriously laughing face!)

and totally out of it!  She was seriously "drunk!"  Here she is..thinking she was rubbing Daddy's face..  I have an AWESOME, WAY FUNNY video if I could ever figure out how to get it off my phone and on the computer where I could actually load up!

We tried to get her in the wagon quite a few times and even as out of it as she was so kept saying, "NOPE!" When it was time to go we just put her in and gave her the Tinkerbell book.  Even though she kept saying no she was okay when we put her in there.   When the docs came for her she looked around for us for a second and looked a bit nervous but went.

 After she was out but before she was fully awake the doctor came to talk to us.  He took us back to a private office (which seriously unnerved me!) and told us the outcome. He said that her throat ended up not being as small as the original diagnosis said (which I will always credit to the wonderful blessing she received).  Therefore she would not need the second stretching!  He wants to see her back in three months to see how she sounds and hear what we think!  WONDERFUL NEWS!!!!!  

When she first came to only one of us was allowed back.  Usually that's me but since she was so "all about Daddy" that morning I told Cory to go back.  (which he said she was asking for me..so I guess you can never win!)  When I got to go back she was SO tired still!  She sat with me and snuggled down.  Cory told me she was in total freak-out mode when he got back there.  She was screaming and screaming, and crying. They had to give her a dose of meds for croup..just like last time..and she was just not having anyone talk to or try and touch her to help her out.  She was just not in a good mood.  So while she snuggled and we talked she fell asleep.  I laid her down and she was just SO cute!!  (no she isn't naked...she had her top unbuttoned because she was fighting the nurses so much that they couldn't get her to be still so they could do her vitals so her shirt got opened so they could get the stethoscope on her as close as possible to hear her heart.)

 She finally woke up for good!!!!

 And it's time to go!!!!

Today (September 18th, 2012) she sounds FANTASTIC! She still gets sore throats but she sounds much better and we will see how it sounds once the winter passes!
